C’s Recap – AquaSox Rough Up Rodriguez To Take Series

Vancouver Canadians Kacy Clemens

Kacy Clemens connected for his second home run of the season in Everett Wednesday.

C's RecapThe Vancouver Canadians could not stage a comeback for the second night in a row, resulting in their first series loss of 2017. The AquaSox jumped on Dalton Rodriguez for seven runs over the first three innings and held on for a 7-5 victory over the Canadians at Everett Memorial Stadium Wednesday night.

Kacy Clemens gave Vancouver a 2-0 lead in the first with his second home run of the season off Andres Torres after Brock Lundquist extended the inning with a two-out double.

Everett responded with a pair of doubles in their first at-bat with Eugene Helder driving in Joseph Rosa. Back-to-back two-baggers in the second by Greifer Andrade and Juan Camacho tied it for the AquaSox before Austin Grebeck hit a two-run home run to put the home side ahead 4-2.

The AquaSox were back at it again in the third when Camacho cashed in a Johnny Adams double with a single before coming home on a Brayan Hernandez triple. Hernandez would cross the plate when Rodriguez uncorked a wild pitch. Rodriguez—who gave up 10 hits and two walks while striking out four—would retire eight of the last nine hitters to get through five innings. Lefty Grayson Huffman pitched three shutout frames and retired seven of the last eight men he faced to give the offence a chance. He scattered two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Vancouver could not get much of anything going from the second through sixth innings. Mattingly Romanin was plunked by a pair of pitches in the third and fifth but only got as far as second once. Clemens walked and Bryan Lizardo singled in the fourth but they could not advance.

Bryan Lizardo had a two-hit effort against the AquaSox Wednesday night.

Lizardo would score in the seventh when he led off the inning with a single and he would score on a Romanin fielder’s choice. Riley Adams singled home Lundquist after he reached on an error in the eighth. Cullen Large singled with two outs in the ninth and advanced 180 feet on a pair of balks by Wyatt Mills before scoring on a Lundquist strikeout and wild pitch. That brought Clemens up to the plate as the tying run but he flied out to end the game.

The Canadians return home for a five-game series against the Eugene Emeralds beginning Thursday. Game times are 7:05 pm for Thursday, Saturday and Monday and 1:05 pm on Friday and Sunday. The games can be heard on CanadiansBaseball.com. Saturday’s game will be broadcast on Shaw TV in Vancouver.

Vancouver is 9-5 but remain one game behind the Tri-City Dust Devils atop the North Division. Everett is back at .500 at 7-7.

About Niall O'Donohoe

My name is Niall O’Donohoe and I am an avid follower of baseball, specifically Canada’s Teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and their affiliate, the Vancouver Canadians. My blog beginnings began in 2007 with Batter’s Box, where I’m still allowed to write stories, summaries and photos about the Blue Jays minor league system under the alias #2JBrumfield. The blog formerly known as Niall On Baseball, C’s Plus Baseball follows the C’s from behind the lens at Nat Bailey Stadium. The reason for the name change was to reflect the main purpose of this blog, which is to deliver plus coverage of the C’s through photos and observations of the players striving to make it to the major leagues, be it with Toronto or one of the other 29 MLB teams. From time to time, I do make it to other baseball games outside of The Nat and will post about them here as well. If you like what you see here, please spread the word about CsPlusBaseball.com by tweeting about this website or using your favourite social media platform about this website that pledges to deliver awesome content about Canada’s only affiliated professional minor league baseball club. Spread the word by legal means only. Don’t write it on any bathroom walls or spray paint any buildings because I have no bail money for you. Still, anything you can do would be very much appreciated!
